A Note on This Beer
I treasured every moment we got to go sledding as kids. My dad enjoyed taking us, too. He’d stand nearby with the other parents, all of them sipping from thermoses and giggling. The one time I asked for a sip, my dad said, “No! This is adults-only coffee!”
It took me a long time to figure out what he meant. But now, I’m all grown up, and I’ve found my own coffee. With a 7.5% ABV, it’s definitely for adults only.
Elder Pine brewed today’s Sleddin’ Hill Stout by blending 50% Imperial Oatmeal Stout with 50% Extra Stout that they aged in Whiskey barrels for 13 months. Then, they conditioned the roasty sipper on Dark Brazilian Santos coffee.
Every warming sip is a smooth dive into a toasty java wonderland, with dazzling notes of chocolate, molasses, and oak throughout. The finish is dry with a waft of fresh-ground espresso chasing it all down.
It’s a masterfully done Coffee Stout that exemplifies why Elder Pine is one of USA Today’s Best New Breweries. And, I’m willing to bet, it’s even more delicious than anything my dad and the other parents had in their themoses.
