A Note on This Beer
My favorite thing about Jeppe from Evil Twin is that he constantly surprises me.
It’s like a game where I try to guess what kind of insane ingredients he’s going pack into his mash tun.
Even knowing what he’s capable of, I was taken by surprise when I saw today’s 8% ABV Sour Sun Saft IPA brewed with a heap of tart black currants and fresh mint!
When I asked him why he made a currant beer, Jeppe said “because they taste awesome and compliment the mint well!” And why the mint?
Because it goes so nicely with the currants, of course!
I gotta stop trying to get into Jeppe’s head. It’s a labyrinth of brewing mayhem in there and all the signs are in Danish.
If you’ve never heard of a currant and mint IPA before, it’s because this is the only one that exists. It’s the kind of deliciously innovative strangeness that makes Evil Twin so much fun!
C’mon! You know you want to try it! Because what does a currant and mint IPA taste like anyway? I mean, I can try to explain it. I could tell you that’s it’s bright and tart from the currants, but with a backbone of tropical fruit and just a touch of resin to remind you it’s an IPA. I could explain that the mint stays subtle, but it’s cool on the palate in a way that you feel more than taste — like a crazy, hoppy, currant-blasted mojito!
And all that’s true, but you won’t really get it until you take a sip yourself. Because there’s nothing I can really compare it to! But I can tell you that it’s refreshing, delicious, and crazy drinkable.
I can also tell you that when you offer your buddy an IPA and then fill his glass with bright crimson Sour Sun Saft, he’ll have no idea what’s going on.
And that will be entertaining for you and delicious for him!
This beer is too new for ratings!
