A Note on This Beer

You come in from the cold, red cheeked and smiling, to find a good friend sitting in front of a pot bellied stove in your quaint little cabin. A bountiful blend of aromas wrap you up like a quilt — rich baker’s chocolate, sweet maple syrup, roasty coffee, and a touch of smooth, woody vanilla.

Welcome to the Sugar Shack Diaries.

The crew at Humble Forager crafted this 4.30-rated sip of comfort for long, dark nights bundled up someplace cozy. It’s the kind of beer you’d enjoy while watching the snow pile up through a frosty window, snug in the knowledge that you don’t have to set foot outside until at least tomorrow.

To create it, the crew at Humble Forager used real maple syrup from the heart of Wisconsin, fresh roasted coffee, Mexican vanilla beans, and cacao nibs all the way from Ecuador.

Every sip tastes like a maple-spiked mocha, dusted with dark chocolate. And, this mocha comes with a belly-warming 12% ABV, so it’ll keep you toasty and smiling all winter long.

Maybe you don’t have a snow-covered forest to tromp through, or a cozy cottage with a cheerful wood stove to come home to, but with Sugar Shack Diaries, you can still capture that feeling.

Won’t you come in and warm up?

Instant maple flavor with a balanced blend of coffee and chocolate notes. Not overpowering flavor wise but definitely will crave your sweet tooth

It was good. Silky, creamy, and stouty. I can't say it was a pastry stout, though. It was light on the malt, which I can find to be too bitter at times. I struggled to identify the maple, but I feel that the conglomerate of extras melded into this whole level that brought this stout up a notch. I feel I would buy this again.

Very maple forward with vanilla notes. Coffee and cacao are undertones that blend well.

Man, I had such high hopes for this beer and couldn't wait to crack it open. I guess they stay true to their name but this beer was just way too sweet. The maple is so overbearing I can barely taste any coffee or vanilla notes. I love a good stout but this felt like I was drinking molasses.

Very sweet but still good. Probably wouldn’t have again but if you like sweet stouts this is the one.

Ordered from Tavour in a 16 ounce can. Poured into an imperial pint class. Look: Dark dark dark brown with a brown two-finger head that slowly dissipated and left a ring of lacing that doesn’t hang. Smell: Sweet, maple, malt, heavy brown sugar notes, some light vanilla. Tiny bit of coffee. I do not get roast. Taste: The taste follows the smell, super sweet (candy sweet), up front with notes of maple syrup, brown sugar and trailing notes of vanilla, and underlying light notes of sweet day old coffee. No bitterness, and only just a hint of the 12% ABV, but well hidden. Feel: Full mouthfeel, syrupy, very light tickle of carbonation that doesn’t hang long. Trailing mouthfeel that is also syrupy that hangs flavor on the back end of the palate. Overall this was a nice breakfast stout... that is to say if you were eating maple flavored candy with a brown sugar coated maple pancake this would be yummy, oh and don’t forget the day old sweet coffee on the side... Cheers everyone!

LOVED this one. Definitely a sweet, desert beer. Great maple and brown sugar notes with a little bit of coffee and chocolate mixed in. Wish I’d bought 12 of these.

This is almost too sweet. The maple comes through well, but combined with the vanilla it’s real sweet. Bringing out the coffee a little more would have balanced this a bit better. Definitely a dessert beer as is.

This is a cool idea to have a pancake with maple syrup turned into a beer. Unfortunately the ratio of ingredients was not to my liking, it was too syrupy sweet for me.

Yet another Covid brunch paired with EPL football. Very subtle coffee nose, strong maple opening fades quickly into slightly bitter coffee aftertaste which unmasks the booziness. Solid, not stellar.
