A Note on This Beer
Today, let’s take a moment to discuss: what the heck is a Kriek?
Originally hailing from Belgium, this old-school style is a snazzy way to describe a Fruited Sour Ale with cherries. Hence the name, which literally translates to “cherry” in Flemish.
Typically, you’d need to grab your passport and hightail to Europe to experience the true beauty of one of these refreshingly tart pours.
Unless you’re lucky enough to score a bottle from our small 10 case stash of Tahoma Cuvee 2017.
Because, with this two-year-long project, Oregon’s Double Mountain Brewery — one of CraftBeer.com’s 8 American Breweries Mastering Kriek Beer — elevates the classic style to next-level sophistication.
First, the brewers craft their Golden Ale by aging it for a year on local Rainier Cherries to develop a tart, funky, and fruity profile and create their classic Tahoma Kriek. Already, this base beer is incredibly unique — on Untappd, there are only 8 beers in the world made with these specific cherries!
Then, for this even snazzier version, they slumbered a small-batch of the Kriek for another full year in American Oak barrels. The additional oak-aging allows all the tart-and-fruity layers to blend ever more seamlessly together, completely masking the 9.6% ABV in each delightful, effervescent sip.
So whether you’re ready to expand your craft beer knowledge by trying your first Kriek-style pour, or you’re already a fan and want a taste from one of America’s masters, don’t miss out on today’s limited-release Tahoma Cuvee 2017.
