A Note on This Beer
Up from the depths of Deschutes’ carefully-controlled cellar comes The Abyss (2015)!
Ranked in the Top 50 American Imperial Stouts in the World on BeerAdvocate with a world-class 99/100 score, you don’t want to miss this masterpiece Stout.
Brewed with blackstrap molasses, brewer’s licorice, vanilla bean and cherry bark, each sip offers a new, alluring flavor to get lost in. Aged in bourbon barrels, Oregon oak barrels, and Pinot Noir casks, each pitch-black pour carries immense depth and complexity.
Six years in the cellar only adds to the complexity, mellowing the 12.2% ABV into liquid velvet and richening the brew’s dark-chocolate depths and vanilla nature.
Each impossibly smooth sip starts with a deep, subdued molasses and licorice-like sweetness. It all cascades into a creamy dark cocoa, espresso bitterness, hiding hints of bright vanilla and cherry, before easing into a tannic oak finish.
The Abyss is a crown gem for any cellar or a sensational sipper, sure to delight any Stout fan you share it with. Grab a bottle from our stash before this vintage brew sinks back into the inky depths of the abyss.
