About This Beer
The legends at Southern Grist and Horus Aged Ales are highlighting crystal malt in their equally sumptuous, Barrel Aged Barleywine-strength CrystAle collab.
For The Heart Part 5, the duo started with a rich base brewed with crystal malt for a sipper that’s like a cross between a Barleywine and a Wee Heavy. Then they aged it in a single Nashville Barrel Company Honey Finished bourbon barrel for 13 months.
Tasting Notes
Hints of honey and vanilla oak from the cask should brighten the rich caramel and toffee tones cascading through the base beer. Chewy date notes plus a kiss of brown sugar and char ought to carry on the finish.
