A Note on This Beer

Forget champagne. When I celebrate, I want to do it right — with a beer!

And today, I’m breaking out a nice beer glass and celebrating with the Chardonnay Barrel-Aged The Tide and Its Takers Brett Tripel (Batch #6).

Excuse me while I look for some confetti to throw, because this stone fruit, white grape, and oaked vanilla super-collab comes from two of the biggest names in craft!

Anchorage Brewing got together with Dogfish Head to brew a smooth 9% ABV sipper with a surprising touch of funk.

While it’ll be tough not to dive head first into this complex collab, you might want to save it for a special occasion.

Just got a promotion? Finally finished your home renovations? Golfed a perfect game? Cracking open The Tide and basking in those ambrosial pear and white wine aromas will sure top any bottle of bubbly!

That’s ‘cause Anchorage and Dogfish Head Triple-Fermented their creation. First, in Oak tanks with Belgian yeast. Then, in French Oak Chardonnay barrels with a dose of funky, fruit-forward Brettanomyces. And finally, after bottle-conditioning and adding a touch more wild yeast, the transformed Tripel is a rich, tart, nectarous sipper!

A dry finish will keep you diving back in until it’s gone. So, you’ll want to stock up on an extra bottle. Or two. Or three.

No one wants to get caught empty-handed when it’s time to celebrate!

Was disappointed to find my bottle completely still. Based on other reviews I think I may have gotten an unfortunate non-refermented bottle, or perhaps a slow leaker. Would like to try another bottle/batch. Mine was lifeless, like a still cider with some urine-like THP.

Brett is definitely the star of this one. From the initial aroma to the sour bite in the flavor. They did a great job balancing the tripel fermentation into something enjoyable. I have to admit, sours aren't my thing and I'm learning to appreciate then. This is one that gets me to appreciate the Brettanomyces yeast strain.

I gave it as a gift so I didn’t get a big taste of it, but from what I can remember, it was pretty fantastic.

Not my things. Very nasty. Kinda like cheap beer and cheap wine mixed together.

My bottle was unfortunately mostly flat. I could still taste some vanilla, white wine, funky stone fruit notes from a beer that was once impressive but I feel like someone opened a great beer and I found it the next day. Wish I could have had the real thing... I was excited about this one :(

This is a very light ale with a lovely Chardonnay taste. it’s almost like a good wine spritzer.
