About This Beer
The latest of Haw River’s “Torn Paper Leaves” series features some of the most rare wood and tea combos the Saxapahaw brewers have blended to date. With delicate, soft spices from Spanish cedar and relaxing yet bold Black Tea notes, each sip leaves complex notes you’ll rarely (if ever) find out and about at any old taproom.
Tasting Notes
Bold, nutty aromatics from the black tea leaves introduce each dynamic sip. Splashes of white peppercorn and grapefruit zest from the Spanish cedar barrels hit right away on the palate. Delicate, soft spices and hints of rosemary rise through, finishing the taste with complex notes of oak, pithy fruit zest, and malt all at once.

Struggle to call this a Quad, can taste the tea leaf but not sure the Spanish cedar had an influence. Very rustic farmhouse tasting.

Noticable earl gray notes, wonderful.

The Earl Grey-style tea is prominent, while the cedar adds a wallop of tannins and all the bitter astringency they bring. It’s an experimental beer that actually succeeds quite well.

Refreshing with the tea. Slightly sweet golden ale that drinks easy!

Flavor comes as advertised. I was intrigued by it but I’m not a huge fan of tea. Its a good beer with a very interesting flavor profile but not necessarily my cup of tea, no pun intended

Wow!
I will admit, I was very skeptical of this. Curiosity got me and I ordered it. Then I put if off - because honestly I was like wtf was I thinking?!
It's oddly good! Like the tea notes up front, then cedar & carbonation at the end.
For an 8.3% it's definitely smooth. The best golden triple I've had.
If you like Earl Grey tea, give it a try. I doubt you'd be disappointed.

White pepper comes out strong to me, on the nose and the tongue. I do taste tea on the backend. Very interesting.

very unique and thoughtfully crafted take on a tripel

Lots of darker, savory flavors here but did not get tea or cedar. more of a peppery, spicy Belgian.

The spruce and Earl Grey are a great combo. The base beer is ok, but feels a little thin.

I was hoping for a bit more flavor. Very subtle, nice perfume on the nose. A few extra ABV wouldn’t hurt. Very delicate.

Enjoyable, crisp, unique.

Huh, wow. That’s…unique. Very definitely a tea-influenced Belgian beer.
