A Note on This Beer
Back in the 17th century, German monks liked their beers THICK.
Those beer-loving brothers needed strong Lagers (basically “liquid bread”) like Dopplebocks, to sustain them for long fasting periods, like Lent.
Tripper Bocker (2019), a Dopplebock from the award-winning brewmasters at Mikkeller, could certainly replace a meal. They cleverly put their own twist on the centuries-old tradition, adding raspberries and aging it in bourbon barrels. They even dubbed their bigger, boozier version a “Tripplebock.”
Each full-bodied, toasted malt sip is laced with caramel, raspberry, and chocolate flavors, and it’s so thick you may want to pop a cork in it halfway through.
I wouldn’t recommend fasting like those monks to enjoy it though — it comes with a sneaky 11.2% ABV!
Plus, those slightly sweet, malt-forward flavors pair so well with food, you’ll think those monks must’ve been crazy for fasting. Pour it into a fancy tulip glass and sip it alongside some brie and prosciutto, or even a decadent slice of German chocolate cake!
Just grab it quick, because it’s hard to get a hold of this rare and sophisticated style. In fact, Mikkeller San Diego is one of the few U.S. breweries making ‘em!
*Mikkeller San Diego is an extra-special treat. Food & Wine’s Most Important Brewery from Europe teamed up with the 5X World Beer Cup Gold Medalists at AleSmith to form this super brewery in SoCal!
