It’s no secret we drink A LOT of beer and if you were to ask us for our top favorites from each style, Funkwerks Tropic King Imperial Saison is one of the first beers on the list.

Tropic King began as a hopped up version of Funkwerks’s award-winning flagship Saison but through time and experimentation, it’s become an all-out flavor extravaganza. House yeast provides a unique peppery kick, but the star of the show is undoubtedly the New Zealand Rakau Hop. Rakau Hop imbues Tropical King with characteristics of juicy peaches, mango and passion fruit while bringing a high-alpha hop kick that will have IPA lovers saying “Boo-ya!”

A hazy mango-orange with a slowly fading three-finger head, Tropic King unleashes a complex melange of tropical fruit and classic Saison aromas – passion fruit, ripe peach and white pepper are front and center, but clove and ginger wait beneath the earthy surface. Quenching citrusy hop bitterness arrives first on the palate. Tropical fruits and hibiscus-esque floral notes give way to finishing notes of spiced lemon, peppery zest and mellow alcohol warmth.

This fruity-peppery delight only comes to us twice a year and our year just isn’t complete without it. We always open a bottle as soon as it arrives but one bottle is never enough.
