A Note on This Beer
In regards to pFriem Family Brewers’ Vienna Lager, Craft Beer & Brewing hits the nail on the head: “[the beer rides] the impossible line between dry and sweet, crisp and warming. A deft study in contrasts, it manages to embody both, with toasty bready malt providing an endearing and rich flavor.”
With the symphony of flavors swirling in the reddish-amber body, I’m overwhelmingly inclined to agree. Honey glazed biscuit aromas pave the way for notes of caramel, toasted almonds, and a hint of malted toffee on the otherwise crisp finish.
I should already expect this kind of excellence from pFriem, an Oregon powerhouse that’s stacked in awards* and renowned worldwide for their Lager and Pilsner styles. Nevertheless, each sip of Vienna Lager is positively stunning, delivering deep-yet-sippable complexity.
If you managed to snag a bottle the last time we had it (over a year ago), you might think you already know what to anticipate. But, wait until you crack open the top and those aromas of honey-glazed nut bread spill out. Whether it’s your first time or the fifth, every journey through this malted Lager mastery feels fresh!
*pFriem has piles of World Beer Cup, GABF, and Brussels Beer Challenge medals!
