A Note on This Beer
I watched Point Break the other night, and suddenly realized why it’s such a cult classic. The West Coast action sports provide solid thrills, but it’s the chemistry between Keanu and Swayze that really captivates.
That kind of power duo doesn’t come along often, which is just one reason why today’s West Coast Connect IPA is so awesome!
It’s a collab from Resident Culture and 3 Sons, who are both swiftly rising brewing powerhouses in the Southeast. Experiencing the mastery that these acclaimed brew crews* bring to their craft is more thrilling than watching Johnny Utah and Bodhi go skydiving!
I’m also stoked because they made a West Coast-style Double IPA, a.k.a. the hop-forward style that is widely credited for launching the modern craft movement.
The brewers chose Centennial, Strata, Vic Secret, and extra-potent Simcoe Cryo for this action-packed sipper, making for pleasant hop-bitterness, notes of fresh-cut citrus, and waves of coniferous resin. And it comes loaded with an undercover 8% ABV!
West Coast Connect has all the makings of a cult classic. But, unlike an early 1990s action flick, it’s a limited release we may never see again. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping neither brewery says “adios, amigo” to each other anytime soon.
This West Coast Connect is the version that Resident Culture canned. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for 3 Sons’ rendition of today’s West Coast hopbomb and do a comparison!
*Forbes says North Carolina’s Resident Culture has “quickly become one of the nation’s elite breweries!” 3 Sons Brewing has earned praise throughout Florida and was just featured on ‘Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.’
