About This Beer
The folks at Ohio’s Hoppin’ Frog call Barrel-Aged D.O.R.I.S. The Destroyer one of “the most complex beers [they’ve] ever brewed.”
If you’ve tasted any of their other phenomenal dark brews, you know how bold that statement is. But it might be true! To create it, the brewers took their beloved Double Oatmeal Imperial Stout and aged it in Bourbon Barrels.
Tasting Notes
Creamy vanilla and savory oak notes completely shroud the 10.5% ABV. Dark chocolate and coffee shape the brew’s smooth body into a liquid indulgence that could replace even the most luxuriant chocolate cake.

A bit flat. No head on the beer and not much flavor. Old bottle?

Little to no barrel

Great flavor - good depth. It is definitely better when it comes to temp a bit. I liked the dry hopping, though I don’t know what kind of hop was used.

Good but to low ABV

Illegible date on the can. Prefer the non-BA version. Found the barrel flavors somewhat at odds with the hopping.

Solid Russian Imperial stout, just didn’t get any barrel flavor unfortunately.

I just wasn’t feeling the flavor on this one. There was a biting bitterness that dragged it down for me.

Tasty, but couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be BBA or RIS. also, site says
10.5% ABV, can says 12.7%.

This one pours jet black with a foamy dark brown head that dissipates to a small tan ring. Rich, dark malt aroma leans toward charred oak, bourbon, dark chocolate fudge and brown butter. Flavor starts out smooth on palate, but hits another gear as it washes around the tongue and slides down the throat. Decadent notes of dark chocolate, burnt sugar, brown butter, toasted walnuts and warming alcohol. Though it lacks a silky, luxurious mouthfeel, there is an intense, bold roasted maltiness that simply overwhelms the palate. Additional notes of espresso, licorice, treacle, dark currants and vanilla bean. Take your time with this one, it’s sneaky big!
