A Note on This Beer
When I heard about today’s 4.11 UT-rated Wisconsin Stout, the first thing that went through my mind was “What the hell is a Wisconsin Stout, anyway?”
The mysterious brewers at Waunakee, Wisconsin’s Untitled Art wouldn’t divulge the ingredients of this Imperial Stout to me either, and I was going a little crazy guessing.
So I was pleasantly surprised when I took a sip all I tasted was pure mapley sweetness that had me craving homemade chocolate chip pancakes — that’s when I found out that America’s Dairyland is also huge on maple syrup! It’s the maple syrup that makes it a Wisconsin Stout!
Untitled Art are new to Tavour, but they’ve been making bold brews that represent the character of the Badger State for three years now. They’ve quickly became a local favorite, snagging the spot of 3rd Highest Rated Brewery in Wisconsin on UT!
These guys are also big on collaborating with other kick-ass breweries — they made today’s decadent Stout with the fellas over at Listermann. And while I want to bathe in pools of this sweet, maplely nectar, that would be a sticky situation since this collaboration is a one-time release!
Warm aromas of maple, dark chocolate, and vanilla greet the nose from the caramel brown pour. The first sip is awash in dark malt sweetness while notes of roasted nuts, dried fruits, and the addition of lactose give the body nuance and depth. Slight oaky tones and a little spice appear at the end for a sip that is sinfully smooth and creamy, and masks the massive 10% ABV.
Maple fiends might make pilgrimages to Vermont, but Maple Stout fiends are all about Wisconsin now!
