About This Beer
To craft it, the Southern Grist crew teamed up with friends at Barreled Souls. Together, the duo aged a rich Barleywine base in Old Fitzgerald bourbon barrels for 25 months and Southern Collective wheated whiskey barrels also for 25 months. Then they blended it with Imperial Stout aged 39 months in Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon barrels and a CrystAle aged 18 months in Nashtucky bourbon barrels.
Tasting Notes
Decadent notes of caramelly date and dried fig cascade through every thick, sumptuous swig. Dark cocoa and oaky creme brûlée tones swirl underneath, seeping into nuances of dried plum and whiskey spice. As it warms, more cask complexities emerge — hints of brown sugar, char, and amaretto — only subtly hinting at the 10.1% ABV.
