A Note on This Beer
Baby, it’s cold outside. Or, at least, it’s getting there.
The leaves are falling from the trees, sweaters are coming out, and there’s nothing quite like putting your feet up by the fire with a nice cuppa cocoa.
And this season, I’m tossing aside the Swiss Miss and filling up my mug with today’s boldly chocolatey, super boozy Ada County Barrel Aged Stout.
The North American Beer Awards Gold Medalists at Woodland Empire pack this Imperial Stout with real raw cocoa for maximum chocolate goodness. And that’s not all — those flavor masters also add cold brew coffee for layered flavor complexity, and then mellow the brew out with a year-long nap in oak whiskey barrels.
And if that’s not enough for ya, they finished it off in rum barrels. Not to mention, the whole thing’s wrapped in a massive 14% ABV that’ll warm you up from tongue-to-toe!
If you’re like me, you’ll want to really embrace the toasty vibe and get a fire going before you start sipping. Wrap yourself in the snuggliest blanket you can find and pretend you’re some kind of fluffy tundra creature who thrives on Dark Stouts.
Or something like that. All you really need in your cozy nest is one free hand to keep bringing this decadent beer back up to your mouth!
But you gotta stock up on it first.
Woodland Empire’s fans are fiercely loyal, and most of them have to go to Boise each year for a chance to stock up on the latest Ada County. If the locals find out that I managed to grab a stash of this annual favorite for Tavour members, you better believe they’re gonna come hunting for it before winter really sets in!
