A Note on This Beer
You know what’s frustrating? Seeing a bunch of overseas check-ins for one of your favorite dark beers on UT and knowing you can’t pop over to New Zealand, or Finland, or Norway to get a pint. See, Omnipollo’s 12.5% ABV Agamemnon Imperial Maple Stout is easy to find in Europe but tracking it down stateside can be a headache and a half. That’s why I’m so freaking happy it’s here at Tavour!
Agamemnon has a reputation six years in the making — it goes all the way back to when this Swedish gypsy brewer was invited to the United States to make a serious beer. And he took a serious robust Imperial Stout base and boiled it in rich maple syrup for 7 hours! Seriously.
You might even call Agamemnon the first Pastry Stout.
It certainly tastes like one: pancakes on the nose with a touch of blueberry, chocolate, coffee and oh yes, maple! The rich layers of flavor follow suit. Look for a hint of campfire, it makes a nice accent to the sweet boozy hum. The finish is remarkably dry, offering an additional counterbalance to the confectionary wonder that is this world renowned beer.
Either you’re like me and Agamemnon is the dark beer you make sure to hunt down every year or you’re even luckier and you’ve never had it before. That means this is your chance to go in blind and come out happy … and more than a little buzzed.
