A Note on This Beer
Today, the craft wizards of the Windy City at Illuminated Brew Works have teamed up with Burnt City Brewing and channeled all their delectable powers into a Mexican Chocolate Ale!
It’s called Ah Pook, after a Mayan god of Death, and it’s packed full of cacao nibs, cinnamon, real vanilla, and a touch of lactose, creating a thick, dessert-like mouthfeel.
Never had a Mexican Chocolate Ale? Neither had we! But if there’s anyone we trust to create one, it’s the masters of unusual brews at Illuminated.
Their innovative offerings have earned them shout-outs from The Chicago Tribune, Forbes, and The Hop Review, among many others. So when they drop something that seems bizarre, you just know it’s going to be delicious.
And today’s brew is no exception! This stuff tastes like a chuggable version of a Mexican hot chocolate with notes of baked apple — almost like a Brown Ale. Except it’s even better, because it comes with a solid 11% ABV.
Be careful with it — Ah Pook is waaaaaay too easy to drink for a beer this boozy! You might want to invite a friend over when you open this bottle, lest you find yourself sawing logs on the couch long before bedtime.
Just don’t tell them you’ve got a second bottle stashed away. If they know there’s another one around, the trickiest part will be getting your friend to leave before they talk you into opening it up!
I mean, it’s not like they’ll have one of their own. Because while Illuminated might be on the Brewers Association’s list of the 20 fastest growing breweries in the Country, their stuff is still damn near impossible to find outside of Illinois.
And Ah Pook is especially difficult — it’s only available at Burnt City’s taproom and right here on Tavour! If you want a taste of this cocoa-filled, cinnamon-spiced, vanilla-coated Mexican Chocolate Ale from the masters of innovation at illuminated, you’ll have to book a flight to O’Hare!
Or just hit ‘Get It’ and we’ll bring it to your door. That’s probably easier.
