This Barrel Aged Stout really does clock in at an unbelievable 22% ABV!

Even for River North — a brewery renowned for their high gravity, oak-aged Dark Beers — that amount of booze is completely bonkers. And it’s only the beginning of the story. The RN crew went all out to celebrate a decade of craft greatness!

The brewers barrel aged this beast three separate times, meaning they aged it in bourbon barrels, then transferred it to different bourbon barrels and aged it again! After that, they moved it into Colorado whiskey barrels and allowed the brew to age even more!

Tasting Notes

Every sip brings swirling eddies of chocolate and caramel, with ripples of oaky vanilla and roasty coffee. But, as you might expect, the strongest current in this brew is undoubtedly whiskey. Bold bourbon flavors flow through every drop, but it still, somehow, drinks shockingly smooth.

I started slow given the 22%. Tastier than I expected with the booze bomb - bourbon, barrel and a bit of cherry. bit of a burn on the way down and warmed up the belly when it got there.

This was delicious. 22 point is no joke. it’s a really rich, boozy brew that left me shakey after just the one bottle.

My 2nd bottle is going to have to sit for several years to mellow out. I could only taste the alcohol, but I think it will be very good once it matures.

Wow! Triple bourbon barrel aged! At a whopping 22% ABV its still smooth and mouth coating. Plenty of bourbon and barrel tastes along with chocolate and caramel notes. Well balanced! Double cheers!!

Nice caramel notes at the top. Smooth stout base supports the whiskey forward (22%) barrel aging well.
