A Note on This Beer

Washington’s Ya Ya Brewing is only a year and half old, but this little brewery is already doing big things.

That should come as no surprise. Co-founder Jason Gass worked at Maine’s beloved Austin Street Brewing. And, while he and his brother Chris developed their skills, they got to bounce ideas off their friends at Foundation, Battery Steel, and Bissel Brothers!

Now, all that knowledge and expertise has paid off with today’s Barrel Aged By & By — their first oak-aged Stout!

To create it, the brewers at Ya Ya filled oak Whiskey barrels with their beloved Milk Stout base back in September of 2020. During 6 full months resting on wood, the brew picked up hints of maple syrup, caramel, and raisins. Flavors that blended beautifully with the notes of real chocolate and cinnamon that they infused into the base beer.

Almost no one has even tried it yet, but those lucky early tasters are totally smitten. Like @Silverio C. who exclaims “what a beer!” and @Shawna P. who says it’s simply “WOW!!!”

As you might expect with a brand new, limited release from an artisanal brewery, our supply of this brew is itty-bitty. If you want to be able to say you were there right at the beginning of Ya Ya’s rise to fame, you’ll have to act fast.

500ml bottle from Tavour. Dark brown pour, minimal head. Cinnamon is first in the aroma, sweet, brown sugar. Cinnamon leads the taste as well, more brown sugar, light roast malts, a warm cinnamon roll comes to mind. Barrel aging here seems to smooth out the malts. Love the flavors here, mellow, subtle. Really nicely done.

Not a bad beer by any means. I’m a little disappointed in the lack of impact on this one I guess I was just expecting a little bit more. The nose implies a bigger beer... however the mouthfeel is very thin and leads way into muted flavors of roasted malt, cinnamon, some coconut (not sure where that’s from) and a little coffee. Overall it tastes like a bigger stout that’s been a little watered down. Unfortunate

Super surprised just how good this was. This beer punches well above is weight. It can have with the likes of Abraxas and I'm some cases I would prefer it. Huge win in this one. I will definitely buy more from YaYa Brewing

rocky and quickly dissipating head. this is a very thin stout and I just barely pick up the barrel aged flavor.
