About This Beer
This is the beer that started it all. B.O.R.I.S The Crusher is a gold standard of RIS, literally! After taking home the 2011 Gold at the Great American Beer Festival, Hoppin’ Frog has used this decadent sipper as the go-to base for their dark brew. From quadruple versions (aptly named Q.O.R.I.S) to barrel varieties like this Colorado-sourced barrel-aged iteration, B.O.R.I.S is a staple for any beer connoisseur’s fridge!
Tasting Notes
Each velvety sip of this full-bodied brew is laced with notes of rich, dark chocolate, creamy caramel, and freshly roasted coffee. Hints of oaky vanilla and bourbon cut through from the barrel aging. A whisper of sticky molasses, dark cherries, and ripe, juicy plums tickles the nose.

Note that I have the Rocky Mountain barrel aged version in the tiny cans. The barrel aging is not overwhelming. Chocolate and mild coffee notes.

Sweet up front, chocolate finish, with notes of coffee in the background. Very definitely a Hoppin’ Frog RIS.

I love Tavour, and these beers are all fantastic. However, this is subpar.

Classic, no-frills Imperial Stout; balanced notes of roast coffee, dark cocoa, and whiskey. The smaller format keeps the booziness from becoming overwhelming, but admittedly, I was hoping for a greater ‘presentation’ overall.

the barrel is strong with this one

Very rich & thick Imperial Stout. Nice barrel-aged Bourbon flavor rounds this out.

Near black pour, ring of brown head. Aroma is chocolate and roasty malts. Taste is sweet, chocolate, roast. Simple but so deep. Slick feel from the oats. Wonderfully smooth with a nice warm, bitter finish.
4.0
Creamy head, RIS aroma with a hint of oats, roasted RIS tastes with hop notes, silky oatmeal mouthfeel, and a warming alcohol finish.
