About This Beer

First brewed in 2004, Curieux is what Allagash calls their “most popular barrel-aged beer.” They only bring back the brew intermittently, carefully aging each batch in bourbon barrels for two months.

Tasting Notes

Every sip of this rich, Golden Belgian flows with rich honey, vanilla, and surprising passionfruit notes! Undertones of oak and spiced whiskey add a memorable finish.

Fantastic BBA Belgian golden ale! Barrel flavors are nuanced and complementary. Still retains its Belgian character.

Supremely delicious!!! I loved and savored every sip of this one. The bourbon flavor definitely shines through and made this immensely satisfying.

I like this beer. oddly I first tasted a tequila taste but further in, it was more of the bourbon taste I expected.

This is a tasty golden ale, however, be cautious as these are an acquired taste. I love the hint of vanilla that's left over on the tongue after taking a sip of this beauty.

The word Tripel doesn't appear on the bottle, instead it's described as a Belgian-style golden ale aged in bourbon barrels. They might do that on purpose to set expectations, because the barrel aging really takes it in another direction. The bourbon aging is strong, and perhaps overpowering of a beer that started as a Tripel. It's an unusual combination but it somehow works well. I enjoyed my second bottle more when I had a better idea what to expect. As a Belgian beer fan, I hope for the chance to try a regular Allagash Tripel sometime!

Aromas of banana and a little clove with some subtle bourbon. Taste follows the nose. Belgiany, crisp, refreshing, and fairly sweet. Not a ton of bourbon, but it’s there.
