A Note on This Beer
Anchorage Brewing’s perfectly rated, 13% ABV Darkest Hour Imperial Stout goes for at least twice its selling price in trades like this. All the beer trading members of Tavour's community have been pitching for this gem since we started partnering directly with Anchorage. This edition of the brooding light-sucker that is aged in Glenmorangie Scotch Barrel-aged edition is making collectors sell their souls -- because it’s never left Alaska until now.
Aged an entire year in these barrels, this experience takes the honeyed-fruit notes of Highland Single Malt Scotch into roasted, 13% ABV darkness. The lucky ones have tasted this in and around the brewery are raving about its fruit and chocolate booziness, giving it an incredible 4.5 on Untappd.
Glenmorangie is one of the most cherished Single Malt scotches in the world, wooing spirit competitions and drinkers alike with its mellow body of spice, sweet, and apricot complexity. These flavors intermingle with the Darkest Hour’s crude oil-thick body of licorice, cacao nib, and black mocha tones, resulting in a king’s buffet of dark chocolate covered fruits. The wood from the barrels accents notes of cracked pepper spice and vanilla-soaked tobacco. A warming, sharp booze rounds out the finish like a Drambuie nightcap.
Special editions of Darkest Hour rarely leave Alaska, and this goes double for their new Glenmorangie-aged version. Grab a couple of bottles, but don’t trade them. Save one for cellaring and see how a little time makes the booze mellow -- allowing the Scotch barrels to really come alive.
4.5 on Untappd!!!
