A Note on This Beer
Known for blending traditional techniques with their own innovative panache, Allagash Brewing dominates the U.S. brewing scene with some of the most highly acclaimed European-style beers in craft. Today’s offering: James and Julie, comes stacked with a 4.26 on BeerAdvocate and 4.24 on Untappd -- even drawing some comparisons to the legendary Rodenbach Grand Cru.
With a blare of tart stone fruit aromas, James and Julie conquers the palate with figs, tart grapes, cherries, and caramelized sugar. Pouring a golden brown, this medium-bodied, complex Sour finishes clean with a hint of lingering spice.
Differentiating itself from other Flanders Oud Bruin Sours, James and Julie is brewed with Pilsner and Chocolate Malts, fermented with Allagash’s trademark house Belgian yeast, and thenaged for two yearson stainless steel with Sour cultures. While most Oud Bruins are aged in Oak, the stainless steel keeps this brew cleaner with an almost candy-like tartness untinged from any woody influence.
Sour fans can’t say enough about James and Julie, like BeerAdvocate poster @angrybabboon who says, “James and Julie is exceptional, even for Allagash's standards. I wish I had bought more of this when I had the chance.”
