A Note on This Beer
The bright crowns of tulips are popping up, the sweet sound of birdsong is in the air, and you can finally wear shorts without freezing. It’s time to welcome the verdant spring with some lush sippers that capture that same feeling of refreshing renewal: Epic Brewing’s Oak and Orchard Fruited Sours!
Epic crafts each of these barrel-aged Oak and Orchard variants with heaps of in-season fruit for a fresh taste of spring’s burgeoning bounty. And, the GABF award-winning brewers release these fruited wonders only after they’ve hit peak Oak-Aged deliciousness.
That means, each batch is not only unique in its flavor complexity, but also extremely limited. Today, we managed to score TWO of these gorgeous Epic Sours to share!
Epic crafts Oak and Orchard Strawberry Rhubarb using a Lambic-inspired base beer built from Pilsner and White Wheat Malts, Spelt, and Flaked Oats. These ingredients add a subtle cloudiness and hint of sweetness. Then, the brewers add fresh strawberries and rhubarb and age it in oak foeders.
The resulting brew takes your taste buds to a quaint farm out in the country. Quenching, front-porch lemonade flavors swirl with notes of juicy sweet, fresh-plucked strawberries and tart, backyard rhubarb. Bright hints of barnyard funk and fresh-cut hay square dance across the tip of the tongue. Whispers of country kitchen pie crust and vanilla come through on the finish from the oak aging.
For Oak and Orchard Blueberry Boysenberry the brewers added piles of blueberries and boysenberries to the same cloudy, malt and oat base. Then they aged it in oak-foeders for a succulent, plucked from the-vine-Sour!
It’s a bursting berry beauty built for picnics in the park and gorgeous springtime evenings in the garden. It opens with a bloom of succulent, dusky blueberry followed by the tangy, raspberry-blackberry notes of boysenberries. Every sip gets accented by a bit of zesty tartness and a dappling of vanilla-laced oak. It’s dewy and refreshing — like a walk through a misty botanical garden on a warm spring evening.
With Epic’s wax-dipped Fruited Sour duo, your spring sipping sessions will reach a whole new level of barrel-aged sophistication! Just don’t miss your chance to grab a 2-pack — like the here and gone nature of the season, our little stash is bound to disappear quickly!
Craft Beer and Brewing and PorchDrinking both praise Epic’s Oak and Orchard series — Craft B&B even gave two variants ‘world class’ ratings of 95/100 and 98/100, respectively.
