A Note on This Beer
Last year, Hop Culture placed Opaque Thoughts in their list of Top 5 favorites in the emerging Milkshake IPA style. They praised Mountains Walking for being Milkshake masters, not to mention brewing all-around “progressive, creative, and tasty beers.”
That was BEFORE the Bozeman, Montana brewery crafted today’s Coconut, Marshmallow, and Double Vanilla version of Opaque Thoughts. Now, this lush Milkshake IPA takes on an extra level of decadence, thanks to a double dose of vanilla!
To craft this luxurious sipper, the brewers start with a foundation of toasted rice, oats, and lactose for an absurdly silky softness. Next, they dry-hop it with nearly 7 lbs per barrel of Citra, Mosaic, and Sabro Hops for a fruity pop of juicy orange, bursting blueberry, ripe mango, and a trace of palate-tingling pine.
Then, the crew conditions it with doubled-up Ugandan vanilla beans, toasted coconut, and subtly-sweet marshmallow. The resulting IPA is worlds better than a milkshake you’d buy from even the fanciest ice cream shop; each sip brims with ultra-lush hop juice AND it clocks an 8% ABV.
It’s a delicious rendition from one of the best in the biz. And, If you snag a few cans, you’ll be one of the only craft fans outside of Montana to try it!
