A Note on This Beer
A lot of breweries in the U.S. *claim* to brew just like the old Belgian monks — the masters who crafted the world’s first beers centuries ago.
But, by and large, they ain’t got jack on Florida’s Barrel of Monks — these guys take their Old-World authenticity so far, they even import Belgian ingredients. And they filter their Florida water so they can add minerals to mimic the water of Bruges!
Barrel of Monks is THE brewery to visit for Belgian-style Ales in Florida. Even Forbes says that nobody in the state does it better!
But today, you don’t have to hang out in Gator Country to get a taste of what makes this crew stand out. They’ve used their mastery of monkish “beer-havior” to craft a rich and decadent Parade of Souls Imperial Stout — and we got our hands on a small stash!
This Belgian-inspired boozer is a once-a-year release that Barrel of Monks imbues with figgy pudding-like Belgian Yeasts.
Every thick drop of Parade of Souls pours with a swirling, otherworldly blackness. Dare to take a drink, and you’ll be welcomed warmly: bittersweet cocoa and dark roast espresso tickle the tongue as a coating of dark fruit and caramelized sugars flow in mid-palate.
On the finish, a final wave of milk chocolate, black licorice, and a touch of anise completely mask the 10% ABV.
People from all over the Sunshine State make the trip to Boca Raton just to taste the swirling blackness in this thick Stout every year! And if they can’t, they just end up like Instagram user @joecoffeego — left WISHING they could make it down to grab a bottle.
But you? You’re one of the lucky folks who can stay put and still have the chance to taste this limited-release brew from Boca Raton’s craft crazy monks.
