A Note on This Beer
Jester King introduced America to Farmhouse Wild Ales ten years ago, and they’ve continued to lead the pack, even through this enormous craft boom.
It was their innovative, spontaneous Wild Ales that put them on the map, and their Spon series is still a quintessential find for craft fans who want to taste the brewery’s expertise.
I remember the first time I tried a Spon variant. It was three years ago, a friend brought two of them back from Texas and surprised us at a bottle share. It sticks in my memory because, even with a table full of incredible brews, everyone was lined up for the Spon bottles.
I never saw a line at a bottleshare before that, and I haven’t seen one since.
Today’s Spon is particularly impressive, even by Jester King’s standards. It’s a blend of three different vintages of highly-rated Spon releases.
It tastes like drinking a tart and funky peach lemonade in a field while horses gallop and goats munch on dry hay around the farmhouse.
Fans on Untappd call it:
- “Absolutely delicious. Dry and acidic with a Lambic flavor profile.” @Cheston - 4.50 stars
- “Very good, it’s a crazy Sour.” @jkauser - 4.75 stars
- “Owww, we want the funk, give up the funk!” @Chris J. - 5 stars
Grab a bottle, and you'll end up just as stoked as those tasters, because there are two types of Wild Ale fans. Those that have never tried a Spon beer, and those infatuated with them.
