A Note on This Beer
Perennial Artisan Ales’ Abraxas has become one of the most loved Imperial Stouts in America — but each year, Dark Beer lovers and coffee fans alike gear up for a weeklong celebration when the brewery releases Sump Coffee Stout.
Brewed with top-shelf Colombian La Virgen beans, it’s no surprise that this chocolate-roasty sipper is such an eagerly anticipated release that pulls in a 4.43 rating on BA.
Breathe in an entire café’s worth of fresh ground espresso aromatics from a deep black pour. Bitter dark chocolate balances a milky fudge sweetness in a decadently thick body. As it warms in your glass, the high-end La Virgens coffee from Colombia brings refined spice notes and a delicate floral acidity.
The sheer amount of flavor complexity and coffee character of Sump makes its 11.5% ABV seem like a figment in a java-induced daydream.
There’s Sumpin’ to be said about a Coffee Stout with such powerful flavor to elicit visceral reactions like “Holy coffee” and “this is nuts.” But a Stout like Sump really speaks for itself.
*Perennial’s brewers recommend drinking Sump fresh to fully experience the Los Rosales coffee’s smooth, earthy and nutty profile.
