excellent vanilla, mediocre sour base

River North’s vanilla bourbon barrel mr. sandman is so far weird. It smells like scotch or basement funk. Not exactly sure how it will be as it warms from cellar temp to room temp. Thin in the mouth feel and not much flavor outside of the above thus far, but I’ll update. Update: The funk doesn’t go away an hour later warming it up and it doesn’t taste like any bourbon barrel I have ever had. Some vanilla does come out, but I can’t get behind it. So down the drain it went.

Great variation on a great stout. The toasted vanilla is really nice and adds a great flavor to the base stout.
