About This Beer
In a Paste Magazine Imperial Stout blind taste-test, River North’s Mr. Sandman came out on top! This bad boy beat out more than 100 other brews by offering the “pitch-perfect composite of all the flavors you want.” Now, the Colorado crafters are back with a sophisticated variant, today’s bourbon barrel-aged Mr. Sandman brewed with real vanilla beans.
Tasting Notes
Vanilla Bourbon Barrel Mr. Sandman begins with River North's rich base, singing with notes of raspberry, cherry, and dark chocolate. It marries a creamy, caramelly mouthfeel with a dangerously drinkable 12.9% ABV. Subtle vanilla balances out the boozy bourbon flavors of this limited-edition brew, giving it even more complexity.

River North’s vanilla bourbon barrel mr. sandman is so far weird. It smells like scotch or basement funk. Not exactly sure how it will be as it warms from cellar temp to room temp. Thin in the mouth feel and not much flavor outside of the above thus far, but I’ll update. Update: The funk doesn’t go away an hour later warming it up and it doesn’t taste like any bourbon barrel I have ever had. Some vanilla does come out, but I can’t get behind it. So down the drain it went.

A little sad and thin, the barrel has dried it out a bit and the vanilla doesn’t bring it all together

Great variation on a great stout. The toasted vanilla is really nice and adds a great flavor to the base stout.
