A Note on This Beer
To be worthy of entering Valhalla, the Vikings had to perform tremendous feats of bravery. I’m no warrior, but I’d say my best shot happened back when Tommy S. dared me to do a backflip off the high dive. I accidentally did a belly flop, but I did so bravely!
These days, I wish I were more creative — like the intrepid folks at Four Fathers Brewing. They boldly brewed a 10.4% ABV Russian Imperial Stout with a whopping 10 DIFFERENT GRAINS, plus hefty doses of lactose, cocoa nibs, and honey!
It’s called Viking Funeral, and it’s a savor-worthy behemoth meant for only the most discerning Stout seekers.
Aside from rye malt, honey malt, and “a touch of smoked malt,” Four Fathers is keeping the full grain bill a secret. But, judging from the immense, roasty, toasty mocha goodness dancing in each sip, I’m guessing it contains a whole lot of dark malts too.
There’s so much daring complexity in these boozy depths, one sip is enough to secure you a reserved spot in Valhalla. The rest of the bottle is for pure enjoyment.
As the Four Fathers team advises, “Savor now, or cellar for future conquests!”
*The beer critics at Local 219 named the Indiana Brewers Cup medalists at Four Fathers, one of the “best breweries in Northwest Indiana without question.”
